When Townsend Constructions began planning their new Townsville offices, they set out to create more than a functional workplace. They wanted an environment that embodied their reputation for quality residential building, a space that felt inviting, refined and reflective of the craftsmanship they bring to every home they create.
Specialising in custom new builds and renovations, Townsend Constructions are known for attention to detail, strong client relationships and bespoke finishes. Their office needed to demonstrate these values the moment someone walked through the door. The vision was clear: create a modern, minimalist space softened with the warmth and texture of natural timber.
Townsend partnered with Ethos Interiors Townsville to bring this vision to life, with timber playing a central role in shaping the look, feel and experience of the space. Porta’s Tasmanian Oak DAR, architraves and skirtings were selected to deliver consistency, durability and a natural aesthetic that complemented the calm, contemporary interior design.

Timber was chosen not only for its visual appeal but also for its ability to add character to pared-back interiors. The design team used Porta’s Tasmanian Oak extensively throughout the space, allowing the natural grain and warm tones to create depth and a welcoming atmosphere.
Visitors arriving at the office are immediately greeted with a striking Tasmanian Oak staircase. The Porta DAR boards wrap the foyer stairs with precision, offering a tactile experience and setting an architectural tone for the rest of the interior. The natural timber softens the clean lines of the space and introduces an element of craftsmanship that continues throughout the building.
The timber continues up the staircase and into the boardroom, where it forms a timeless feature wall. The Porta Tasmanian Oak panelling creates an uninterrupted visual flow, connecting the two levels in a way that feels cohesive and intentional. This feature wall has become a standout element of the office, grounding the room in natural warmth and reinforcing the company’s refined aesthetic.
To maintain design consistency, Porta architraves and skirtings were installed throughout. These subtle details create sharp, clean transitions between materials and finishes, adding sophistication and polish to every room. The skirtings provide practical surface protection while enhancing the modern and cohesive look of the office.
Choosing Tasmanian Oak was a deliberate decision. Its durability and fine grain allow it to withstand regular use in a commercial environment, while its natural tone brings a sense of comfort and familiarity often associated with residential spaces. This quality reflects the very heart of Townsend’s business.
The completed design reflects a thorough understanding of how timber can shape both the aesthetics and function of a space. The warmth of Tasmanian Oak balances the otherwise minimalist palette, preventing the interior from feeling stark while ensuring it remains contemporary and uncluttered.
The extensive use of Porta products provided the design team with the reliability and consistency required to create clean lines and joinery that feels seamless. The precision machining of Porta DAR boards ensured every length fitted perfectly, reducing installation time and allowing for beautifully aligned edges and transitions.
This attention to detail reinforces Townsend’s commitment to high-quality work and mirrors the standard they bring to their own residential projects.
The completed office is more than a place to work. It is a physical embodiment of the Townsend Constructions brand. From the warm timber staircase to the refined details found in the architraves and skirtings, the interior communicates professionalism, trust and craftsmanship.
Clients visiting the office are welcomed into a space that feels calm, cohesive and carefully considered. Staff enjoy a workplace designed with materials that elevate both comfort and aesthetics.
The response from clients, visitors and the Townsend team has been overwhelmingly positive. The office now serves as a showcase of how biophilic design, supported by natural materials, can elevate modern commercial spaces and create a workplace that inspires confidence.
