The Design Challenge

The Lifehouse modular concept aimed to return to fundamentals — reducing complexity, minimising trades and eliminating unnecessary finishes.

The brief focused on:

The Porta Solution

STRUCTAply® Square Edge was used across ceiling linings, exterior soffits and the verandah, as well as internally for joinery elements including shelving, a study area and built-in storage.

Lightweight, durable and easy to install, the panels enabled efficient construction while delivering a warm, natural finish. The exposed plywood ceilings required no additional lining, reducing materials, labour and maintenance over time.

Builders valued its straightforward handling and consistent quality, a material that works hard without requiring excessive finishing.

Sustainability & Australian Manufacturing

STRUCTAply® Square Edge is manufactured at Porta using sustainably grown Australian plantation pine.

By sourcing locally grown timber and manufacturing in Australia, Porta supports responsible forestry, regional employment and a dependable domestic supply chain.

Plantation-grown timber is a renewable building material. When incorporated into long-life structures such as Lifehouse, it stores carbon for the life of the building, contributing to reduced embodied carbon outcomes compared with more emission-intensive alternatives.
