Proven Performance
At 19mm thick, STRUCTAflor® YELLOWtongue® is engineered to meet AS/NZS 1170.1-2002 requirements for residential flooring. Suitable for joist centres up to 450mm, it provides a secure base for general living areas while maintaining excellent load-bearing strength. Its distinctive tongue and groove system enhances stability at unsupported joints, creating a solid, reliable and squeak-free floor that stands the test of time.
Efficient Construction
Builders continue to choose YELLOWtongue® because it saves time and simplifies construction. A standard subfloor can be installed in as little as 8 to 10 hours, significantly reducing labour and costs compared with slab-on-ground construction, particularly on sloping sites.
STRUCTAflor® YELLOWtongue® is suited to a range of installation methods:
- Platform construction: Laid over joists before wall and roof framing, offering a robust working platform during construction. YELLOWtongue® can withstand up to five months of weather exposure.
- Fitted flooring: Installed after the roof and walls are in place, cut precisely to fit around framing.
- Upper storey flooring: Ideal for second-storey additions or extensions supported by timber joists or wall framing.
Each installation method delivers dependable results with consistent performance and efficiency on site.
Fixings and Installation Tips
To get the best results, builders should follow recommended installation practices:
- Apply a continuous bead of construction adhesive along joists for maximum stability and reduced squeaks.
- Fix using screws or nails in line with manufacturer guidelines. Screws are recommended in high-moisture zones.
- Allow for expansion gaps to accommodate humidity and temperature changes.
Additional best practice tips:
- Ensure the subfloor is clean, dry and level before installation.
- Acclimatise panels to the site conditions before laying.
- Use sharp, quality tools for smooth cuts and professional finishes.
Wet Area Applications
STRUCTAflor® YELLOWtongue® is suitable for wet areas such as bathrooms and laundries when correctly waterproofed. To comply with AS 3740:2021, builders can either:
- Apply a compatible waterproofing membrane directly to the substrate, or
- Install a fibre cement tile underlay before applying the membrane.
These steps protect the subfloor from moisture damage and ensure compliance with the National Construction Code (NCC).
