  • Dial Before You Dig: Always check for underground utilities before drilling post holes to avoid service strikes.
  • Council Approvals: Confirm local regulations for fence height, boundary setbacks and approved materials.
  • Site Assessment: Test soil and drainage conditions. For poorly draining sites, use a coarser concrete mix (such as 20 MPa with 10 mm aggregate) and add gravel collars to reduce the risk of post heave.

Precision Installation Techniques

  • Laser-Level Alignment: Use a rotating laser for perfect height alignment across uneven terrain.
  • Post Setting: Drill post holes to one-third of the post length, clamp posts vertically, and pour concrete in controlled layers. Tamp each lift to remove air pockets and ensure maximum stability.
  • Bracing and Fixings: Brace posts at both ends of a run until concrete cures. Use stainless steel ring-shank nails or 8 × 120 mm structural screws for fixing rails, pre-drilling where needed to prevent splitting.

Finishing & Maintenance

Finishing details make a big difference to both the longevity and appearance of the fence.

  • Edge Trimming: Bevel the top edges of rails and palings at a 5° angle to improve water runoff.
  • Protective Coating: Although H3 treatment provides excellent protection, applying a UV-stable oil will enhance colour and weather resistance.
  • Routine Inspections: Check fences annually for loose fixings or ground-line rot, particularly after prolonged wet conditions.
