Ensure the backing surface is structurally sound, dry, free of dust, grease and oil. If the backing is painted, remove any loose or flaking paint film.
Apply construction adhesive or fix at a maximum of 450mm centres.
Either fix with a deep drive brad or, for harder timber, pre-drill and use a finishing nail. If using adhesive alone, ensure boards are physically supported until the adhesive has cured.
