Finger Jointed (FJ) Pine is a knot-free, paint-grade timber product comprising lengths of clear wood joined end-to-end utilising micro-sized finger joints using an interior grade adhesive. The strength, stability and overall length is increased through the finger jointed glue-bonds that efficiently utilise shorter lengths to make longer lengths.
FJ Pine is a soft and low density timber comprising lengths of clear wood joined end to end utilising micro-sized finger joints using an interior grade adhesive. Durability Class 4. Timber strength and potential overall length is increased through the glue-bonds.
The micro-sized finger joint where lengths of clear wood have been joined end to end provide a 'finger-like' appearance as slight colour difference.
FJ Clear Pine is very easy to work with standard tools. Its low density means it holds nails and screws very well. It can be successfully stained, painted, waxed or colour-washed. Its open grain structure readily accepts preservative treatment, and glues with common adhesives and stains well.
FJ Pine is ideal for a wide variety of internal applications including furniture, decorative uses, toys, joinery/shelving, mouldings, panelling, and lining boards. Also produced in 2.7m lengths for use as studs in house framing construction.
How do I prepare the timber for painting?
For decorative applications, light sand (sanding with the grain) then fill any holes with a wood filler. To achieve a smoother finish, wipe down with a damp rag, allow to dry for 30 minutes to raise the grain, then sand with a garnet or aluminium oxide 220-240 paper. Apply undercoat (prime) and finishing coats, lightly sand between coats, for a great finish.
