The Project – Luxe Entertainment Venue
AMF Bowling, who own and manage Kingpin Bowling alleys nationally wanted the flagship Crown Casino Kingpin bowling alley to become a venue that offered an entertainment experience not just be known as simply a place to go bowling.
AMF engaged TONIC Design to redesign the Crown Casino Kingpin bowling location. The project consisted of a makeover for the downstairs Hub and Arcade rooms as well as a luxury VIP bowling experience upstairs. Anna Gowen, Tonic Design Architect and their team wanted to essentially “create a VIP venue which takes the bowling experience to a whole new level”.
The project also involved guidance from Crown Casino designers to ensure rhw final result reflected the aesthetics of the Crown brand experience. This refurbished flagship entertainment venue has now become the benchmark in Australia for The AMF Bowling Portfolio.
TONIC Designs choose Porta’s timber dowels to create a striking ceiling design. Forty thousand round timber dowels were used to create a unique three dimensional ceiling-scape as a focal point for the venue. Anna shares “the individually cut and hung dowels give a beautiful soft movement and also hide all the services for a seamless finish.” Every one of the dowels were dipped in a rose coloured fire retardant paint by Porter Paints which created a stunning contrast to and highlights the beautiful grain in the Tasmanian oak timber.
The combination of the round shape of the dowel and the gold paints gives, as Anna puts it, ” a beautiful soft movement, and seamless finish” that also serves a practical purpose of hiding the services required on the ceiling. Tonic teamed the timber dowels with reclaimed french herringbone flooring, custom Italian carpet and bespoke leather and brass furniture.
