Softwoods

Radiata Pine

Other common names : Monterey Pine (Botanical name Pinus Insignis). Radiata Pine is a softwood grown extensively in plantations in both Australia and New Zealand. It is supplied by Porta in the following grades.

Clear Pine (CP)
A knot-free product which is easier to work than knotty pine. It can be successfully stained, painted, waxed or colour-washed.

Finger jointed Pine (FJ)
A knot-free paint grade product comprising lengths of clear wood joined end to end utilizing a micro-sized finger joint employing an interior grade adhesive whose strength and potential overall length is increased through the glue-bonds.

Treated Pine (TP)
Impregnated with preservatives increasing longevity against termite attach for 30 + years.

Visual Features
Colour, grain & texture is a light, creamy yellow/straw colour, prominent growth rings, fine but uneven texture.


Hardwoods

Tasmanian Oak

Other common names: Victorian Ash, Australian Oak (Botanical names : Eucalyptus - gigantea (Alpine Ash) (S), delegatensis (Alpine Ash) (RS), regnans (Mountain Ash) (RS) obliqua (Messmate Stringybark) (S). S.E. Australia is the name given to several Ash species.

Technical Features
It finishes and polishes well, holds nails and screws firmly and glues extremely well. The select grades are often used for furniture and joinery panelling, mouldings and flooring.

Visual Features
Colour, grain & texture is pale brown and often with a pinkish tinge. The colour of Tasmanian Oak ranges from "straw" to a light reddish brown. Featuring a uniform and smooth texture, the grain is straight, open and even. Please note, natural variations in grain, colour and texture are considered a characteristic of the species and are not recognized as a defect.


Primed Finger-Joint Pine

Botanical name: Pinus taeda

Technical Feature- This timber is very easy to work, stable and strong. Due to the finger joints the strength of the timber is enhanced.

Visual Features - Pre-coated with a specially developed water-based primer in a matt white finish. Porta's Primed Pine mouldings are ready to paint with either a water (acrylic) or oil-based paint.


MERANTI

Botanical name: Shorea, Parashorea

Technical Feature- Firm to soft timber which machines well to produce a smooth surface. Easy to paint, stain or polish.

Visual Features - Colour variations from pale pink to dark red and straw through to yellow.
